An ecology of mindset
Is your mindset solely your own?
At first glance, it may appear as though your mindset is uniquely yours, arising and developing as a result of your unique life experiences.
Yet, the more you examine the origins of your mindset, the more you uncover a fascinating paradox: your mindset is developing within a context of collective and intergenerational transmission, where a lot of mindset material is being passed on from person to person and from generation to generation. In this respect, your mindset is shaped by the diverse ecology of beliefs and paradigms that exist in the cultures you belong.
In this week’s newsletter, I want to introduce the idea of an ecology of mindset. This insight builds upon and is complementary to Anthropologist Gregory Bateson’s idea of an ecology of mind.

Here are some questions for you to reflect upon this week:
What are some of the major mindset patterns that you have noticed that exist as part of the larger ecology of mindset?
How has your mindset been shaped by the larger ecology of mindset that exists in human society?
What is one mindset that you inherited from the larger ecology that you are currently committed to changing and transforming in your life?
