Mindset psychology insights: Mindset is a pattern
Welcome to the first of a series of newsletters that will explore some of the essential insights that are at the heart of mindset psychology. These insights are based on the psychology presented in The Nature of Mindset and the Handbook of Mindset Research. 📚
The first insight is that mindset is a pattern and it is also an umbrella term.
The TLDR here is that if I was to sum up the fundamental nature of mindset, I would say mindset is a pattern that becomes internalised in our lives. You can think of this pattern as a kind of setting. Some aspect of our mind has become set, which readies us for certain patterns of perceiving, developing, and acting and not others. 🧩
More broadly, it can also be suggested that mindset is an umbrella term for a wide range of psychological phenomena, including beliefs, attitudes, assumptions, paradigms, worldviews, constructs, and more. ☂️
